Celebrating “Perfect Enough”: A Mother’s Day Reflection
By Wendy Coombs, PT, CEO, Momentum Health & Evidence Sport and Spine
As Mother’s Day approaches, I’ve been doing what many moms inevitably do: reflecting. Not just on the joys (and let’s be honest, the occasional madness) of motherhood, but on the often-unspoken pressure we put on ourselves to be everything—the perfect mom, the perfect partner, the perfect professional.
But here’s the truth I’ve come to embrace over the years: perfection isn’t the goal. Perfect enough is.

I didn’t come to that realization overnight. As the CEO of Momentum Health & Evidence Sport and Spine, a mom of two teenagers, and the proud wrangler of three overly enthusiastic dogs, my days are… full. They’re a balancing act of virtual calls, lunch-packing, late-night laundry, and chasing both deadlines and furry tails.
Every day requires triage: Do I answer those non-urgent work emails tonight? Do I run out for milk so breakfast doesn’t turn into a scavenger hunt? Or do I just surrender to the couch and Netflix (again)? Spoiler: Netflix wins more often than I’d like to admit—and I’ve learned that’s okay.
“Perfect enough” means giving your best in the moment, even if it doesn’t tick every box. It means recognizing that spending 80% more time on something for just a 20% improvement isn’t always worth it. It’s the kind of wisdom that lets you walk into a lived-in house and smile, knowing it’s clean enough to be healthy, but messy enough to be happy.
It’s understanding that the world won’t end if the cupcakes for the school bake sale are store-bought, or if dinner is spaghetti—again. It’s about choosing to be present with your family, even if it means some things stay on tomorrow’s to-do list.
This mindset has helped me not only manage the pressures of work and home, but actually enjoy the little moments—those sweet, silly, fleeting minutes with my kids, my husband, and the dogs.
We talk a lot about our values at Momentum Health & Evidence Sport and Spine. Simplicity, Evidence, Independence, Compassion, Communication and Fun! My reflection is to remember to be compassionate to yourselves, leave the mom-guilt at the door.
This Mother’s Day, let’s honor the beauty in the mess, the meaning in the madness, and the strength in showing up as we are. Let’s laugh more, forgive faster, and remind ourselves that love doesn’t live in perfection—it lives in the ordinary, everyday chaos we call motherhood.
Happy Mother’s Day. You’re doing more than enough—and that’s something truly worth celebrating.

This May, we’re celebrating someone who makes a meaningful difference in the lives of mothers across Calgary — Kieran Liew, PT.
Kieran is a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist at both Momentum Health Creekside and Deerfoot, where she provides compassionate, personalized care to women through all stages of motherhood. Whether it’s preparing for birth, recovering postpartum, or managing conditions like diastasis recti, pelvic pain, or incontinence, Kieran brings knowledge, empathy, and genuine care to every session.
Her passion for pelvic health goes beyond the clinic. Kieran also volunteers with Mommy Connections, where she shares with new moms guidance on topics like core recovery and pelvic floor awareness. Her workshops are down-to-earth, informative, and empowering, giving moms the tools to feel confident and supported in their recovery.
Kieran’s client-centred approach blends exercise, manual therapy, and education to help people reconnect with the joy of movement. She treats both men and women, and is one of the few pelvic floor physiotherapists in Calgary to do so.
We’re proud to spotlight Kieran this month for her commitment to helping moms feel stronger, more comfortable, and more confident in their bodies.

Self-Care for Moms: Simple Ways to Prioritize Your Well-Being
As a Mom, you care for your kids and your family–but caring for others starts with caring for yourself. Unfortunately, hectic schedules and other obligations can make self-care take a back seat.
At Momentum Health, we help busy moms find easy ways to focus on their health. Our team shares some of their favourite tips to help you boost your wellness without adding stress.
Make Movement Part of Your Routine
Even 10 minutes of light activity can improve your mood and boost your energy. Here are some ideas for squeezing in exercise:
- Take the kids on a quick walk around the neighbourhood
- Do some sun salutations or other yoga flows while the baby naps
- Try doing squats or lunges while you watch TV in the evening
Prioritize Your Core Strength
A strong core is about much more than just abs. It actually includes all of the muscles that wrap and support your spine, including your back muscles, obliques, and glutes, and it plays a critical role in supporting your back, posture, and energy levels. Try these tips:
- Practice deep belly breathing to activate deep abdominal muscles
- Exercises like pelvic tilts, side planks, or glute bridges safely build strength
Rest Without Guilt
If you have a baby in the house, your sleep might be inconsistent–but rest still matters. Give yourself permission to take breaks.
- Lie down for 15 minutes, even if you can’t sleep
- Use relaxation techniques like guided breathing or progressive muscle release
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it
Keep Yourself Nourished
Feeling too busy to eat? Skipping meals leads to low energy and poor focus, so make eating well a priority.
- Keep simple, nutritious snacks on hand, such as fruit or nuts
- Stay hydrated with water or herbal teas
- When you do have time to cook a healthful meal, make enough for leftovers–that way, you have easy meals on hand
